Cuban farmers, the humble “guajiros” or “campesinos” of the countryside, have been mixing rum with ingredients provided by the land for hundreds of years. The Saoco is one such drink. A tall, built drink consisting of just rum and coconut water (and maybe a little lime juice if you want). Just grab your machete and crack open that coconut. Of course if you left your machete at home then just head over to your nearest grocery store and pick up some bottled coconut water. Buen provecho!
- 2 oz rum
- coconut water
- In a Collins glass add the rum and crushed ice until the glass is mostly full.
- Add the coconut water to fill the glass then use a bar spoon to briefly stir the drink.
- Top with additional crushed ice as needed.
- Garnish with lime wheel and serve.
